Afrihyia pa (Happy 2008)

Afrihyia pa (means may another year come back to meet you in my language) Here I am in Atlanta with my twin Amba and family after a marvelous Christmas. Well Amba tightened (and coloured!) my hair and my brother-in-law took some wonderful photos of us, so feelin' cute, I am keeping one of my new year's resolutions to keep this blog more up to date with new photos...enjoy!

Mature and maturing locks

Here are two photos of my clients (and good friends!) showing how beautiful locks are in all their rich diversity, as they mature.. Akos, on the extreme right in the bottom photo, has MASSES of hair and it is taking a while for her sisterlocks to condense. She was about about fourteen months locked in this photo. Aj and Abby (L to R) have traditional locks which they've been wearing for about four and two years respectively.

I love my sisterlocks!

My locks are now past shoulder length and I am enjoying wearing them freestyle (right) or with a a bit of a curl from a braid-out (left). They are so easy to style and add instant glamour even when they are badly in need of a retighten as they do now, Amba I do miss you!

Weddings and Babies

Its been ages since I last posted anything! I've been busy taking care of my new baby girl Kukua since January this year and recently attending a spate of weddings. That's my mother on the bottom and Miss Koo and I! My hair has grown quite a bit this year and the orange has faded to a dull bronze colour that I prefer-I never quite got round to doing a rinse! Next time I colour though I think I will see a professional.

Sisters at Sogakope

Finally got time to post a few photos of me and my sisterlock clients -well really more like sisters(L to R; Akosua, me, Audrey and Dzodzi)! We are sitting in front of the Volta Lake in Sogakope, where we were attending a gender workshop held by CEGENSAa couple of weeks ago.

Inspired by golden_08, I dyed my hair red after stripping out the colour with a blonde bleach. As you can see it turned out more ginger than red, but no harm done to the hair, so I shall wait a reasonable amount of time (three months) and then apply a deep red shade for balance!

In my office at the ICT Centre, University of Ghana

Our Webmaster came round suddenly this afternoon to take photos of 'the Management' for the new University of Ghana ICT portal, so here is one of me, at my desk, caught off guard but looking suitably demure. In the right hand corner of the photo is part of one of my favourite oil paintings by Ablade Glover, a well known Ghanaian artist.
